When I arrived to my internship for the first time I was nervous, but excited. I took a look around at the different plants they had, familiarizing myself with the work place. Due to some confusion, I had to wait a while to meet my mentor, but I got to meet one of the very nice employees instead. She told me the history of the business, and a little bit about the owner himself. Needless to say, I was feeling very welcomed. After a few minutes I got to finally meet my mentor Carl. My impression of him is that he is an honest business man, and a great one at that. He told me that he cared more for his customers than profit, which I really admired about him. After answering my questions, he had left to do some work, but that's when I got to meet the manager. He told me all about the job, and answered all the questions I had. He told me that even though he didn't get paid much here, it was the best job he has ever had. I knew once he said that, I was going to enjoy working here.
Some of the ideas that my mentor, and I came up with for my independent project were helping fix up his website. They would like to add more selections of plants, and make it more user friendly for landscapers. Although I don't know too much about maintaining websites, I told them I'd be happy to help however I could. Another option would to be to memorize the names, and growing conditions of the plants, and then making labels for the customers. I liked that idea a lot more, but I would be happy to help with both. After all of that was figured out I went home, feeling very excited for January.
