The Bottle opener project was my last project of the year. The first thing I had to do was make a design on a piece of paper with the actual dimensions I needed, and I had to pick out the wood pieces I wished to use. Once I got all of this sorted, I gave the paper with my dimensions to Will, my Engineering teacher, and he cut the pieces I needed on the table saw for me. After he gave me back my pieces, it was my job to glue them all together. After waiting a day for glue to dry I cut off the extra pieces on the Miter Saw, and then ran it through the Planer to make the wood level and take the remaining wood glue off the faces. After I had finished that I had the corners cut off for me, and holes drilled into their correct places. Once I finally got my project back I had to sand down the sharper edges, and the different faces. The I did a wet sanding, which is getting a wet paper towel and dampening the wood, letting it dry, and sanding it once again. This ensures oil will stay on the wood better. After I had my progress checked off by my teacher I covered it in two coats of oil (which took a very long time to dry). After it dries you cover it with three coats of clear polyurethane, and left that to dry. After I finished that I got the bottle opening attachment, and screwed it into the board. I like how my bottle opener turned out, but I'm thinking a different design might of looked cooler, but I don't mind it too much. This project taught me how to better use the planer.
