In my Humanities class this past semester we learned a lot about the different lenses that each person has, and that how it affects how different people view the world around them. We got to see how our lens differed from the other students in our class by working on our "Unfair Project" and our Identity Maps.

We also learned quite a bit about the different literary theories, and how we could apply them to our different book club books. The ones we were taught were: Critical Race Theory, Psychoanalysis, Postcolonialism, Queer Theory, Feminism, and Reader Response.
Critical Race Theory talks about how race and racism is talked about, and how it affects the plot. Psychoanalysis Theory talks about the subconscious mind, conscious mind, motives, and desires, of the characters in book or the author themselves. Postcolonialism Theory is when a story includes aspects of colonization, and talks about the effect it leaves. Queer Theory states that gender should be thought of as something that is fluid. It also likes to go against the gender roles that are assigned to females and males. Feminism Theory talks about how women are oppressed through psychological, economic, political, and social ways. Reader Response is when the reader takes the text, and breaks it down in a literary theory of their own choice. |
